Unnamed

Digital black and white prints on archival paper.
Installation: Approx 6 x 2 m (236 x 78 in)
Details: 17.8 x 12.7mm (5 x 7 in)

Unnamed is an installation of nearly 300 individual block mounted prints. The details are of fragments of perished plastic grave markers of the kind used by poorer communities. The debris once formed a record and a memory of a deceased person, their name, significant dates etc. Broken and scattered they become meaningless and relics. As a whole the installation draws personalised attention to specific details that 'leap' from the whole and 'sear' or 'sting' the viewer. The installation is a physical manifestation of Roland Barthes theory of the punctum.
